Knowledgehook congratulates the Niagara Catholic District School Board on its continued progress in mathematics, as reflected in the latest Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results.
This year, Niagara Catholic reported notable improvements in both Grade 3 and Grade 6 mathematics. Seventy-six percent of Grade 3 students and 61 percent of Grade 6 students met or exceeded the provincial standard—well above provincial averages of 64 percent and 51 percent, respectively. These gains reflect sustained efforts by teachers, school leaders, and students across the board.
For several years, Niagara Catholic and Knowledgehook have been collaborating through a ‘research into practice’ partnership to support teachers and school leaders using technology to help students gain confidence and higher achievement in math.
Niagara Catholic District School Board teachers completed 3,600 Short Learning Cycles on Knowledgehook, leading to better results in student learning. Using the Short Learning Cycles program, teachers are able to quickly identify gaps in student learning, provide just-in-time interventions to their students, and measure the impact of their interventions to ensure students are learning. Education research spanning over 40 years shows that teachers’ use of short learning cycles is among the most effective instructional strategies for improving student achievement.
“Niagara Catholic began taking a very focused approach to improving students’ success in mathematics in 2020. This is when we made the investment in Knowledgehook, which has proven to be a highly effective tool to support student achievement.”
- Camillo Cipriano, Director of Education, Niagara Catholic District School Board.
“There’s no question that students were affected by the many interruptions in learning during those foundational years (during the COVID-19 pandemic). There was an urgency to ensure that students regained any ground that they lost and Knowledgehook has played a big part in that success. There was also buy-in from school administrators and teachers, who are focused on ensuring that students are growing into strong, confident math learners.”
- Kim Kinney, Superintendent of Education, Program and Innovation Services, Niagara Catholic District School Board.
“Knowledgehook would like to congratulate the collective efforts of Niagara Catholic District School Board’s school leaders as well as the teachers for their extraordinary accomplishments on behalf of their students.”
-Travis Ratnam, CEO, Knowledgehook
